The City Council of Totana, through the Social Welfare Department has managed the collection of more than 200 families from the town of about two million in social assistance during the past year 2009, as reported by the council of the Department, Juan Carrión, who has made a positive assessment of the management carried out by the municipal social services in relation to the handling of cash benefits aimed at helping the most disadvantaged and dependent on local concerns.
These grants, as reported, have been granted by the regional and state administrations, based on the assessment made by the technicians of the municipal social services, to support a minimum subsistence income to people without their basic needs and ensures personal services for dependents.
Carrion praised the amount of work done by the city department, which handled a total of 328 cases, and described as successful management of them to capture a total of EUR 1,764,291.76 and to allocate that money to support an increasing number of people who have serious social problems and needs, taking into account the economic crisis taking place in the municipality.
