The City Council of Totana, under an agreement approved unanimously whole of the three municipal groups, marks the 30th anniversary of the first democratic municipal elections, held on 3 April 1979 under the theme "30 years near you, consolidating democracy "
Through this initiative, will be held over the coming months, various municipal activities in collaboration with the associative structure of the town to commemorate this date: cycles of round tables and conferences, debates, exhibitions of photography, etc, related with life and history of democratic council.
Also be promoted along this year knowledge of local values based on tolerance, proximity and citizenship among children and young people, planning events at schools, civic and cultural which also involved representatives from all local groups .
On April 3, 1979, after the majority of the public endorsement of the Constitution of 1978, held its first municipal elections that paved the way for democratic normalization in Spain and the political backbone of Spanish society.
During these 30 years, local governments of cities and towns have significantly improved the welfare of the citizens, giving them a significant number of quality services as the answer given by the municipalities to the demands of citizens has been instrumental build social cohesion based on solidarity and equality.
The proximity to everyday problems, life, people's immediate, which most affect their aspirations and needs, coupled with tighter environmental knowledge in which people develop their life projects, have made a privileged local to improve the living conditions of residents.
Celebrate the 30 anniversary of the first municipal elections is celebrating the triumph of the best democratic values to which all citizens are identified: dialogue, participation, tolerance, commitment, responsibility, welfare and progress.
