The government delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, stressed this morning, "the breakthrough in improving the quality of electricity supply in the Region" is the new substation that opened this morning in Totana himself and Carlos Rafael González Tovar Collantes, director general of Electrical Transport in Spain, a company that owns it.

González Tovar reported that these facilities include a substation of 400 kilovolt (kV) and a line connecting the installation with the axis of 400 kV Litoral-El Palmar.

"With it, has indicated, it supports and enhances the transmission and distribution of the area and facilitating the escape of wind from the northwest of the region."

The investment amounts to 8.7 million euros.

The implementation of this project represents the fulfillment of all the actions included in the 2002-2011 Planning in Murcia, leaving only to complete Peñarrubia substation, planned for 2009.

Furthermore, substation Totana, Red Eléctrica has exceeded 150 million euros investment in the region to ensure coverage of the demand and improve power system reliability Murcia, whose demand rose in 2007 to 5.3 %, while the average mainland grew by 3.1%.

The objectives of these investments have been supporting the demand from the transport network in Murcia, Cartagena and the coast, and within the region and provide power to desalination plants.

In this sense, the delegate of the Government has indicated that the de Totana "guarantee the energy needs of the desalination plant Valdelentisco" and announcing that "is already well advanced in handling other Eagles, to supply the plant to be built in this city. "

He has also stated that it facilitates the removal of the new generation, especially combined cycle and renewable energy, which helped to increase the installed capacity of 600 MW in 2004 to over 3,800 MW in 2007.

On the other hand, stressed that the substation Totana "allows the incorporation into the national grid power special regime, mainly wind, which is generated in the Northwest Region of Murcia."

During the inauguration, Carlos Collantes noted the importance of having launched almost all of the facilities planned for 2011, necessary to meet growing electricity demand in the region.

For his part, Gonzalez Tovar noted that the new substation, which represents an investment of 8.7 billion euros, "is an essential infrastructure to support the distribution of electric energy in Murcia, especially in the area Guadalentín Valley. "

The delegate has also clarified that the work can carry the energy produced by combined cycle plants tailings and reinforce the shoreline that runs from Carboneras (Almería) to Granja de Rocamora (Alicante).
