The celebration of the first concentration of the "Black Wednesday", chaired by the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez, accompanied by members of the government team, in order to show the conviction and condemnation of violence against women has took place this morning at noon in front of the Consistory.
In this pioneering act throughout the Region of Murcia, which has been attended by over fifty people and is held every first Wednesday of the month, Councilwoman Trina Cayuela, proceeded to read a manifesto and the names of deceased women because of gender violence in Spain throughout the previous month.
The concentration has also been carried out in the Occupational Center "José Moya" of the town, with users and professionals of the same, which wanted to join the rally as a group more supportive to the cause.
This pioneering initiative at regional level, presented jointly by the three municipal groups at the request of the Municipal Council for Equal Opportunities, was unanimously approved yesterday by the full City Council, and the creation of a logo for City Council Equal Opportunities which will form the basis of their corporate image to what has been a contest of ideas.
In this regard, the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, expressed its strongest condemnation to these facts in mind that violence against women remains one of the most heinous and frequent violation of human rights in the world .
Therefore stressed the importance of this initiative pioneered in the region, "noting that" totanera society must take steps to sensitize public opinion and take steps to prevent this from happening more, "hoping that the next merger will not be taken proceed to reading the names of any deceased woman for these reasons.
