Totana City Council will recognize the work of collaborators in a public ceremony to be held in plenary for the month of September.
Today, coinciding with the International Day of Co-operating, "the head of the area of development cooperation, Juan Carrion, has praised the extraordinary work done by the 1,400 Spanish who dedicate their time to development cooperation in 63 countries.
Donors are responsible for carrying out the processes of long-term development in underdeveloped countries or those who have been victims of some natural disaster.
According to the council, volunteers do relief work in many parts of the world.
Thus, Carrion said that "society should respect the work of these individuals for their tenacious and selfless struggle against poverty in impoverished countries."
The mayor stated that the commitment of thousands of people with development cooperation is an example for society and as such should be recognized and valued.
In this regard, Carrion said that the Consistory will strive to meet the objectives of the international anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals by 2015, "since" to end poverty is not only an ethical commitment of the first order but a of the basic conditions for achieving a more just and peaceful world, "said Carrion.
Carrion recalled that last year presented the report "Totana and International Cooperation."
This document contains all the campaigns and projects have been conducted in the municipality in terms of development cooperation from 2003 to 2007.
