Sister cities of Mérida and Totana an official event held today at the plenary hall of the frontier capital celebrate the Trecenario in honor of the patron of both towns, Santa Eulalia, held until next October 4 ;
and in which representatives of the municipalities, the Holy Totana Foundation and the Association of the Virgin and martyr Santa Eulalia de Mérida.
The totanera delegation was composed of 90 people, including the president of the Holy Foundation and pastor of the Church of Santiago, Jose Ruiz, and councilors totanera Corporation, Alfonso Cayuela, Josefa María Sánchez and Francisco Hernández were and patrons of this organization that promotes eulaliense worship and the preservation of heritage, environment and customs around the figure of the patron saint of Totana.
The reception in the emeritense Consistory was chaired by Deputy Mayor of Merida, Raquel Bravo, and was framed within cults and cultural social events planned that will participate in this event totanera delegation in order to deepen the strengthening of ties linking the two cities.
During the meeting, representatives of both institutions have exchanged gifts;
while municipal representatives Totana thanked sincerely the cozy and hospitable spirit of its emeritenses brothers who have invited the supervisory celebrations of the month of December in honor of La Santa.
Furthermore, it was also attended by the Councillor for Religious Affairs of the Consistory of Mérida, Francisco Miranda, President of the Association of the Virgin and martyr Santa Eulalia, Luis Miguel González, and the pastor of the Basilica of Santa Eulalia in the capital Extremadura, Antonio Bellido.
The Trecenario is a celebration in which four monks for 13 days daily exercises are developed for the faithful to reconcile emeritenses and working hours with religious celebrations, and cultural, social and musical events are organized around the figure of the Patron .
The totanera pilgrimage was organized by the Holy occasion of Trecenario Foundation of Santa Eulalia, both cities have as Patron, within a cultural and tourist also travel to the historic cities of Toledo and Cáceres.
