Path of the niches (26/11/2013)

The programmed path allowed admire the many niches that are interspersed through the streets of town.

On Saturday November 23 held cultural activity organized by the association for the preservation and dissemination of Cultural Heritage Totana "Canico" Hand totanero historian Juan Canovas Mulero.

The niches are elements that are dispersed through the town of Totana in a quiet way, coming to pass almost unnoticed by passersby.

They embody the popular devotion throughout the centuries in Totana, and constitute an asset that must be maintained and preserved.

The tour allowed to visit some of the 20 or niches that are currently spread through the streets of Totana.

The route started in one of the best known and charming corners of Totana: Chapel of the Holy Christ, that seems to date back to the eighteenth century.

It was built in an area of ​​union between the old quarters of the Conception and the Seville neighborhood.

It ascending down Main Street Seville towards the Calle San Ramon, is obliged need to stop and contemplate the wonderful house of Gregorio Parra (early twentieth century), 1909, as can be read on the front door .

At San Ramón, Doña Agueda street corner, is located in a house in ocher color, one of the oldest and most interesting niches is dedicated to San Ramon, protector of pregnant and parturient

A few meters above, at the confluence of the San Felipe Street, Hazard Romero, the niche of San Felipe Neri is located.

Installing this niche would be related to the existence of an oratory in the village since the late seventeenth century to the nineteenth century.

Already in the Barrio de Triana walked along Calle San Cristobal, which was recently placed a panel recalling that in this street dance masks were formerly celebrated.

In the corner of this street with Raso of the niche of the Wood Child of the Ball is located.

It is an image of great interest and it encuadraría in the first stage of Olot.

A little further up on the corner of this square with the Nun Street, can be seen at low altitude, the niche that has a cross with Symbols of the Passion cross, crown of thorns, ladders, nails and hammer.

Now located in close proximity to one of the highest parts of Totana, a visit to the Hermitage of San Roque, which is located in a well maintained landscaped environment that accentuates even more the beauty of the building was made.

To complete the route the group went into the street Don Laureano, where the niche of St. Gemma Galgari, Patroness of students is located.
