City officials and representatives of the Community Irrigation Totana participated today in the Mesa Valley Territorial Guadalentin participation in the process of public consultation to draft the new Hydrological Plan of the Segura.
The mayor, Isabel Maria Sanchez, and the council of Agriculture and Water, Diego Muñoz, accompanied by Jose Rodriguez, Totana commoner organ, attended the meeting held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Lorca.
This meeting is part of the citizen participation process for the preparation of the project proposal Hydrological Plan and the Environmental Sustainability Report water planning process in the Segura River Basin.
The event, held under the slogan "Hydrological Plan of the Segura Basin 2009/15. Everyone has the word", was also responsible municipal councils and irrigation communities of the region, who presented their views on hydrological replanning Segura.
The meeting served to know the need for institutions to submit their contributions and suggestions to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment in order to improve the project before next December 7, ending the period of public consultation project .
It was also agreed the need to quantify the problems and close the basin needs for territorial planning Segura Basin.
With the new project is incised to complete the administrative regularization of irrigation, extend the existing situation for irrigation consolidated by the Basin Hydrological Plan of 1998 that remain outstanding performances defense and flood control and increased regulation and constitution of Clearing Water Rights.
It also calls for the recovery and restoration of rivers and surface water bodies, promoting the reuse of reclaimed water and improved debugging, recovery of groundwater bodies, and recovery of riparian vegetation and maintenance of flow environment.
