Closed down during 2012/13 remedial education program "Occupational Classroom" Sociocultural Center "Jail" (23/06/2013)

City officials and teachers closed last Friday the Occupational Classroom, remedial education program in which enrolled a total of fifteen students of Secondary Education.

The event was held at the Centro Sociocultural "Jail", after the delivery of qualifications and diplomas to the young participants.

Once again, the city of Totana and the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment have enabled the development of this program being done in our town for a few years.

The opening ceremony was attended, among others, Mayor, Isabel Maria Sanchez Ruiz, the Councillor for Education, Josefa Maria Sanchez, director of IES "Juan de la Cierva", Juan Manuel Martinez, who has been assigned the classroom during the two past school years and teachers who have taught classes for the course.

Occupational Classroom has been developed on the premises of the Centro Sociocultural "Jail" in time 8:15 to 14:20 pm, Monday through Friday, except for PE classes that have taken place in the Sports Tennis the neighborhood of the Era Alta.

Students participating in the program have received training from a team of teachers employed by the Ministry of Education.

It has basic education combined with vocational training within the scope of Cuisine and Pastry.

In addition to this training, students have participated throughout the year in different complementary activities around specific themes: social skills, occupational safety and drug abuse, road safety, environment, multiculturalism, volunteerism, youth resources, ... , among others.

As a novelty, this year has added to its line up a Food Handlers Course which reinforces learning they received at a practical level, and in order to provide them with a more accessible when in the future the labor market.

During the closure, the mayor has encouraged students to continue their training, passing on the importance of incorporating into their lives the effort and perseverance to get everything they want, they have been urged not to be content with what they have and strive for more and better trained.

The mayor, meanwhile, has referred to the importance of this program as a liaison for the continuity in the education system, and more specifically to participate in a Vocational Training Program (PCPI).

He thanked the Ministry of Education, especially the Service to Diversity, for the bet to continue this type of programs that are aimed at preventing and reducing dropout age.

For his part, Director of IES Juan de la Cierva encouraged students not to miss the opportunity to improve their personal and professional benefit from the future to a job.

All thanked the faculty and technical staff who coordinated the program, parents and their collaboration in this initiative and encouraged the participating students to make an effort in their motivation and future training.
