Education launches the campaign "Sharpen your school supplies." (07/09/2011)

The Councillor for Education, Maria Josefa Sanchez Mendez, announced the launch throughout the month of September, continuing the work of previous years, the campaign to collect school supplies the slogan "Sharpen your school supplies "requesting the cooperation of citizens to recycle used materials and school education, contributing to the reduction of truancy.

This initiative, through which you are creating a bank of books and school supplies, is part of the actions carried out from the Municipal Department of Truancy Prevention and Control of the Department of School Education.

With the launch of this initiative is to promote and support the creation of specific resources that contribute to the reduction problem of absenteeism, develop actions aimed at prevention of truancy, raise public awareness of the need for educational materials recycling and school use and promote values ​​of solidarity, care and reuse of material resources.

The council has explained that schools can not meet these requirements or financial grants that are offered from different areas can respond to this situation.

In this sense, it is appropriate implementation of this campaign to collect materials and school, which will "contribute to the recycling of those textbooks and school supplies so they can be used used by families who need it most ".

And, as said Sanchez Mendez, one of the reasons why some students attend school is, among others, "having difficulty accessing material resources, especially in low-income families."

Therefore, schools through coordination between the various resources (schools, Municipal Service for Prevention and Control of truancy, Department of Social Services ...) will gather the demands of families and made the request once valued and studied always the case that can not be achieved through aid grants to study or other means.

The campaign will run throughout the month of September and the material delivered must be in good condition, no paint, write or deteriorated so that it can be used by the students of nursery, primary or secondary education (ESO).

Textbooks may not be older than three years.

The type of material that can be deposited are text books, reading, books, educational games, pencils, boxes, cd-rom interactive games, backpacks, scissors, short stories, dictionaries, pens, tables and lamps for study, calculators, puzzles , markers, folders ... or other material, no longer be used.

These materials may be delivered in the Socio-Cultural Center "The Prison," from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 hours or at the school.
