Station Wastewater Treatment Plant debug Totana get 9,000 cubic meters of water "quality" per day thanks to the launch of the new tertiary sector was opened this morning by the Minister of Water and Agriculture, and Mayor Antonio Cerdá Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez.

The plant increased its capacity to treat wastewater by 50 percent, from 6,000 cubic meters per day to 9,000, representing the recovery of an annual volume of more than three hectometres.

The mayor pointed out that this work, together with the manifold sanitation "Totana-South" and has already gone out to tender, will try almost one hundred percent of municipal wastewater to be reused by farmers to irrigate field, thanks to the invaluable contribution of the region.

However, Sánchez Ruiz expressed his satisfaction that in recent years the city of Totana and the Autonomous Region jointly invested 12 million euros in water infrastructure in this municipality.

This project, an investment of 1.5 million, funded 80 percent by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the remaining 20 percent equity with the regional government.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Water, is "a very productive investment, not only funding but also very advantageous for the objectives of the project," as the reuse of water "is essential" to ensure irrigation, "a fundamental pillar in the regional economy generated export revenues of 1,500 million euros a year, "he said.

The new infrastructure has the capacity to treat up to 9,000 cubic meters of water a day.

Currently it is an annual volume of 1.5 million cubic meters is available to the irrigated areas of the municipality.

Antonio Cerdá stressed that the treatment systems and wastewater treatment in the region "are governed by the technical criteria of the California Code, which are stricter in this area," according to the General Plan of Reorganization of Region Murcia.

He stressed that "it is essential to guarantee the quality of irrigation water."

In this regard, said treatment system "allows us to have a completely clean and water free of any pathogens and bacteria, making it possible to reuse".

The head of Water noted that "other regions are asking for assistance in this matter."

The Ministry is planning further collector Lebor general sanitation, that will soon to bid, with an investment of 1.3 million euros.

This infrastructure is complemented by the construction of the southern general collector, which is published in the Official Gazette of the region, worth 1.5 million euros.

These two manifolds have the same objectives and allow for increased water flow in the filter, for all the south and west of the town environment and improving living standards, and strengthen irrigation "in the region, he stressed.
