The Mayor of Totana last night held a meeting with the board of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers (COAG) (11/08/2011)

He undertook to celebrate 1 September meetings as necessary with the municipal officers to inform farmers of new amendments to the Urban Plan in different areas.

In last night the Mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez, met with the Board of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers Lower Guadalentín (COAG) to address some aspects of common interest: the problem of the rabbit plague The project of the Farmers' House, the reactivation of the Denomination of Origin Dominga grape, collaboration to a possible conclusion of an agricultural show and other issues affecting farmers in Totana, such as changes in the Plan General Urban.

The President of the UAG, Isidoro Cayuela, the Mayor moved that the Union has over 400 members and are willing to collaborate and agree on all issues affecting agriculture and relevant to the City Council, provided they have with the Organization prior to the ongoing projects and to take into consideration that the Farmers Union is by far, the organization that represents the majority of farmers in Totana.

Cayuela Isidoro also told the mayor that his organization was very concerned about the fact that to meet a few interests in the planning agreements and urban Totana case, the modifications required by the Plan approved in part, could pose a mortgage and very serious harm on thousands of acres and thousands of farmers whose land would be turned to protected to offset the environmental effects of the expansion of plants in the town and the construction of tens of thousands of homes planned, which increase the current population of Totana several hundred thousand hectares.

Cayuela Isidoro also stated the Mayor to do a complete reorientation of PGMO be realistic with the current situation and to respond to a model consistent with the production model of Totana based primarily on agriculture and agribusiness.

The Mayor reported on the efforts being made in relation to the problem of pest rabbits, said the project of the Farmers' House has stalled for the moment, their intention to collaborate on issues like reviving the name of Origin of the Grape and the suspension of the agricultural fair held this year.

Regarding the concern of farmers about the damage they may have for their land compensation that the Plan calls for the town and approve the agreements, the Mayor reported that in September will set up a Commission to agree between all political groups and business associations all matters concerning the General Plan.

But that assumed a commitment that, in early September, before holding that meeting, the municipal officers have one or more meetings with representatives of farmers to analyze and report, area by area and detail of the changes that the Environmental Impact Statement and Approval Order Partial Plan, would lead to the qualification and use of agricultural land and around the township outside the town.
