The City Council of Totana, answering a Ministerial order in which obliges the government to launch an information campaign through which it informs immigrants to vote in municipal elections in 2011 which is the legal process to make use of their right to vote for them.
According to reports from the Department of Social Welfare and Immigration area, those citizens living in the city from the countries of Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and New Zealand may exercise their right to vote.
These people must have a number of requirements: possess the appropriate residence permit in Spain, have resided in Spain legally and continuously for at least five years preceding his application for registration on the electoral roll of immigrants, and include in the Municipal Register.
It is also essential in the electoral register of foreign residents in Spain, from 1 December 2010 and January 15 2011para This requires the corresponding application in several ways:
- Completing the NIE in communication that immigrants receive from the Electoral Census Office, signed and forwarded by mail to the Provincial Delegation of the Electoral Census Office (no postage necessary)
- By telematics, by accessing the Electronic Office INE, https: / / sede.ine.gob.es, and proving their identity through an electronic certificate or, if not possess, by the NIE and Telematics Identification Key CTT contained preprinted communication
