The city of Totana establishing a special preventive plan to prevent flooding from the possible drop cold (17/09/2010)

Totana City Council has established a special preventive plan to prevent flooding in homes and in sensitive areas of the municipality compared with the forecast of torrential rain fall, better known as cold drop.

Emergency services, Local Police, Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, with the help of the Integrated Maintenance Department of the City, have been established under the Municipal Emergency Plan, the main steps in the case of produce heavy rainfall.

In the Public Safety meeting held this morning, has realized the cleanup conducted and the most prone to flooding in the event of heavy rain.

It has also established the most frequent points of action in the event of having to cut roads like 340, the avenue of the Cemetery, the Royal Way, among others.

During these days, has been conducting a very thorough cleaning of areas where water is a natural step, as gullies, ditches and gutters of roads which can, in the case of not being clean, the occurrence of floods in areas housing or vials of communication.

In the last downpour that took place in August caused flooding in the village of El-Cantareros Paretón.

After this incident had visited the affected areas to establish the necessary measures to avoid the same thing happen again in the case of rains.

From the Department of Services has been carried out cleaning of roads, crossing gullies and gutters in the village, among other actions.

Thus, as explained by the mayor in charge of the municipal area, Sergio López, optimizes the operation of the scuppers or elements of rainwater harvesting to capture and divert water into storm drains and sewers and minimize the risk of flooding in the locality.

In this sense, explained that some scuppers showed solid obstructions, sand and litter, necessitating a thorough cleaning process and a major maintenance thereof.

Furthermore, as stated by the mayor, before a downpour, in many cases, you can not predict the momentum of the water and there may be flooding, but thanks to the rain collection systems prevents many of them.
