A sculpture commemorating the habanera de Totana chairs Ortíz Marcos City Park in honor of National Competition Habaneras (16/07/2010)

The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, Director General of Tourism, Marina Vidal, and the councilman of Culture, Ana Belén García López, and the sculptor Anastasio Martinez inaugurated a commemorative sculpture of Totana habanera, which since yesterday chairs an Garden City Park "Marcos Ortiz."

The National Contest of Habanera met in this year 2010 its thirtieth anniversary and as regards this kind of music on the Spanish east, is a well-deserved recognition in the place where the event takes place today chairing a privileged allegorical sculpture habanera, "explained the mayor of Culture.

The councilman of Culture explained to all attendees at the event, among which were many lovers of this music, which for this occasion and especially will develop several commemorative events totanera habanera.

For its part, the Director General of Tourism, who apologized because of the presence of Minister of Culture agenda, Pedro Alberto Cruz, praised the good work carried out by the city of Totana to keep alive this tradition so deeply embedded in the municipality, that attracts "many tourists to town."

Allegory of the sea

The author explained that the sculpture, the sculpture of more than two meters in terra cotta, is an allegory of the sea, because the habanera is the song that came to the Spanish land from Cuba by sea.

For his part, Mayor of Totana, who thanked the participation in the event of the "Friends of the Habanera," recalled the importance of this cultural event programming within the traditional holiday of St. James.

He indicated that this year we have tried to recall the origins of what thirty years ago was the Festival of Havana with a "Habaneras Evening."

This event will take place tomorrow at the Auditorium Marcos Ortiz from 22:00 pm with the participation of the choir "Vox Music, Santiago de Totana Choir and Youth Choir of Old Tower.

The mayor said that the government team, one of the main objectives is to keep alive the folk traditions, and thus keep alive the essence of culture totanera.
