The Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, has raised a motion from her department to the regular plenary in April urging the regional government, and more specifically the Ministry of Education, for the implementation of the School Nursing program in schools of the Region of Murcia from the next school year, as unanimously approved in the Regional Assembly in October 2016.

In the motion, the edile of Education, asks the regional government sufficient budget to start it, taking into account the budget of 2017, increasing it so that more centers are provided than expected, so that you do not miss the 2017 allocation.

According to the proposal, the school nurse is a figure that is becoming increasingly important in society, extending throughout the school community.

The need to carry out an analysis of different scientific publications can help to gradually increase the progress and promotion of the school nurse, an emerging profile of nursing.

In the same motion it is gathered that the available information evidences the need for a school nurse in the classrooms.

The work as well as health promotion and prevention is very effective in school students, improving their quality of life and health knowledge in a stage of life essential to acquire healthy habits

The role of the nurse is fundamental in the orientation and training of students, family members and teaching and non-teaching staff in schools.

There are many aspects that treat nursing in schools, becoming a fundamental and indispensable tool of work.

In response to this background, the Regional Assembly unanimously approved in October 2016 the progressive incorporation of nurses in 611 educational centers in the Autonomous Community.

The objective of this initiative, proposed by the Parliamentary Group of Citizens, was to improve the care and integration of children with chronic diseases and work to prevent cases of drug addiction, addictions, school bullying, obesity, etc., as well as betting on education and health promotion in the schools of the Region.

For this, the budgets of the Autonomous Region of Murcia for 2017 included a game of one million euros for the incorporation of 80 nurses to as many schools in the Region, as recently highlighted by the Official College of Nursing of the Region of Murcia.
