The councilor recalled that since the beginning of this term, in 2015, the regional administration claimed the need to intervene and restore this monument, since for some time now, "signs of an advanced degenerative state have been observed, with a evident aesthetic degradation and problems of functioning of the water flows, as well as structural deteriorations that can endanger original and unique pieces of the monument ".

Inmaculada Blázquez mentioned that in August 2016 a formal request for a grant was made to the Directorate General of Cultural Assets to intervene in the source and its surroundings, supported by a technical project in which the needs and interventions to be carried out were detailed. .

He explained, "due to administrative problems, this concession was delayed, but today we can say that the procedures will be initiated as soon as possible for the preservation of one of our architectural and historical icons of Totana."

The councilman of the branch showed his satisfaction for the beginning of these performances, which he said, "it is a reason to be happy to share with neighbors such important news," he said.

In addition, he added that "it is my wish, that with this restoration, which I hope is underway in a few months, in addition to consolidating and ensuring the structural part, and what is not seen because it is inside the source, we can appreciate the beauty of the original colors and marbles that our ancestors contemplated, as well as learning to value it as one of the most relevant elements of our artistic heritage and to reserve it for many years with the interventions projected in its environment ".

For his part, the architect Francisco Guerao explained that the work not only includes an important performance of restoration of the source that will give light and value to it, but also an adaptation of the architectural environment that surrounds this monument to make it more remarkable and appreciated in the integral environment of the whole.
