The Plenary of the City Council of Totana agreed last night, with the votes in favor of the PSOE and the abstention of Ganar Totana-IU, PP and the mayor not attached, the motion of the Municipal Socialist Group to conduct a popular consultation to determine each year the local festivities in this municipality.
Thus, it was approved to submit, after a period of debate, a citizen consultation on the days of local festivities, being the citizens who determine them;
as well as create a commission composed of the political and collective groups involved to agree on the consultation questions.
The Councilor of Celebrations, Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, explained at a press conference the details of the matter during the plenary debate in the regular session of September, as well as the details of the resolution agreed and its consequences for the future.
In the April plenary session, with the favorable votes of the Popular Party and Ganar Totana-IU, the proposal of the Councilor of Festivals was approved on the calendar of the local festivities for next year, being fixed on January 13 and December 10, respectively.
In this plenary session, the Socialist Group abstained from considering that "the day of the traditional pilgrimage of our patron saint had changed, (on January 7 or, failing that, on the 8th, when it falls on Sunday to January 13 ) without opening enough debate in the society of totanera, sensing that this measure would cause the discomfort of the neighbors of this municipality, because our traditions are a sensitive aspect for society, "according to the motion.
"As has happened in recent weeks, and unnecessarily the controversy has been increasing creating in the municipality an environment that does not benefit anyone," indicated in the motion approved.
Therefore, it was considered necessary a citizen consultation in the first quarter of 2018 that put an end to this situation, and therefore, it is the neighbors and neighbors who decide what day they want the traditional climb to their Sanctuary of the Patroness of Totana;
at the same time as it was suggested to declare festive on July 25, the feast of Santiago.
Rejection of total amendment Win Totana-IU
The Plenary agreed to reject an amendment to the totality presented by Ganar Totana-IU to the socialist motion in which it was proposed to urge the Board of Trustees of La Santa Foundation to establish an immediate popular consultation, in which totaneros and totaneras older than 18 years , and in accordance with what was established in the Citizen Participation Regulation, to pronounce on this, answering a question asked about the establishment of the most appropriate dates.
In the same amendment, which was rejected, it also proposed to create a Commission of Celebrations for the Patron Saint Festivities of Santiago and Santa Eulalia, in order to fix the local festivities and the conditions in which they will be developed, complementing the work carried out by the Department of Festivities.
