The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, today visited the cooperative partners who have been concentrated for several days at the doors of the Cooperativa Agraria de Totana (COATO) in order to show solidarity with their cause, while offering to mediate with these and the company itself in the dispute they hold to require three million euros from the liquidations of last year's almond campaign.
The first mayor wanted to accompany the cooperatives and take an interest in their demands, who also demand greater transparency in the investments to be made with the operational funds this year and want to know who will be the partners who will enjoy these .
Andrés García has moved the support of the municipal corporation totanera and has advocated to open channels of dialogue and negotiation between the parties to expedite the solution of the conflict.
In addition to talking with the concentrated producers, the mayor met with the manager of COATO, Victor Hernando, who has also raised his predisposition as mediator figure in this conflict.
At the time of writing this information was being considered to open a negotiating table between the two parties from next week in order to agree a definitive agreement.
Up to three euros per kilo of almond in the case of organic production and 1.60 in the case of the conventional almond is what COATO partners say they have lost in clearing the prices they have received this year for their production of almond in this totanera cooperative.
They added - they said - about three million euros and since Tuesday are concentrated in front of the headquarters of the company to demand the president, Jose Luis Hernandez, explanations about what has happened to receive amounts that they consider ridiculous and unfair, as they have communicated to the mayor totanero during their meeting.
