The new permanent extension of the University of Murcia (UMU) began last night its activity in the municipality of Totana with the celebration of a talk by Professor María Martínez, director of this delegation in this municipality, and the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Centum" on the hundred years of this educational institution.
Both the inaugural lecture and the exhibition took place in the exhibition hall "Gregorio Cebrián", and took the title "University of Murcia: past and present".
For its part, the exhibition will remain open until next September 26 in this same cultural infrastructure.
In the act were the mayor of Totana, Andrés García, and the councilor of Culture, Eulalia Moreno, as well as other members of the Municipal Corporation totanera and public in general.
This activity is also part of the "Totana Cultural" program.
With these activities officially begin the program of events of the headquarters of university extension of Totana.
This locality became since last May in a new headquarters of permanent extension of the UMU, in which will be developed, with frequent frequency, training activities and of cultural and sport type directed to people of all the ages, and promoted by this educational institution in this municipality.
The extension of the University aims to bring knowledge to any sector of the population, from childhood to adults, encouraging continuous learning, promoting artistic creativity or promoting sports activities, with the aim of betting on a critical and solidarity spirit, for healthy habits and respect for cultural, social and environmental diversity.
Also, among its functions are the promotion of culture and awareness of citizens in their practice and enjoyment, the development of knowledge of the culture and society of the environment through the promotion of sociological, anthropological or artistic studies, among others .
The commemorative exhibition of the Centennial of the University of Murcia, sponsored by the Regional Assembly of Murcia, aims to show the citizens of the Region of Murcia its history and its evolution.
Offer a tour of some of the most important milestones experienced by this center, to make known to the new generations those modest origins already distant, but above all, to expose and show the reality of this university, ancient in its history, but absolutely modern in facilities, staff and research projects.
A university with a determined vocation of service and of the future that have been determinant in its continuity and evolution to be placed in the present time among the most modern and best equipped of that international environment in which today the centers of Higher Education move.
Through various panels the exhibition shows the locations where the University of Murcia was located, until its definitive installation in the Campus de la Merced and its great expansion of Espinardo, as well as the current centers and their history and the evolution of the collective University of the last decades Teaching staff, Students and Personnel of Administration and Services - or the gradual incorporation of the woman to all type of studies and its integration in the labor world like teacher or PAS.
It also includes, through the images of the rectoral gallery, the thirteen rectors who have held the maximum responsibility in the center;
the 43 Honoris Causa doctors, or the origin and history of the Social Council.
The sample also gives account of the changes of the shields used in the most important events organized in the current and previous foundations.
And, of course, it also reveals the origin, evolution and current state of research, its libraries, publications, culture, artistic heritage, sports ...
Among the aspects covered by the sample are also the history of the Older Colleges;
the center's determined international vocation;
the history of the university press since its inception, or summer courses.
