Some forty people benefited from the last course of the University Volunteer project in the programs of "Educational Reinforcement" and "Social Intervention" (21/08/2017)

A total of forty people benefited during the last academic year of the University Volunteer program in the programs of "Educational Reinforcement" and "Social Intervention", promoted by the University of Murcia (UMU) in Totana, with the collaboration of the Council of Youth.

In these, five UMU students participated voluntarily, both in the "Educational Reinforcement" aimed at children in situations of socio-cultural disadvantage, and in Social Intervention with dependent elderly people.

These voluntary initiatives are driven from the City of Totana by virtue of a collaboration agreement signed with the Service of Attention to Diversity and Volunteering of the University of Murcia.

With respect to the "Educational Reinforcement" project, a total of twenty students from 3 ° to 6 ° of Primary Education of the "Luis Pérez Rueda", "Santa Eulalia" and "San José" schools collaborated, collaborating in this project three Volunteers.

The purpose of this initiative was to reinforce the educational process of each participant, trying to prevent and reduce possible problems of failure, absenteeism and early abandonment of studies, through the support of learning, enabling a time and a space to experience Schooling in a more positive and motivating way.

During two weekly sessions of one and a half hours each, and in the schools themselves, the students have received such educational reinforcement.

On the other hand, in the "Social Intervention" program with older people, two volunteers collaborated through support in the different activities carried out, according to the center's programming, such as crafts workshops, daily press, play games, coexistence, visits Cultural, memory workshop, gerontogimnasia, among others;

And which has also benefited a total of twenty elderly people.

In return the volunteers receive university credits and a certificate issued by the City of Totana that accredits the hours of voluntary action taken.
