Recall mandatory anti-rabies vaccination of dogs, cats and ferrets. And of the microchip identification of dogs (09/08/2017)

The Department of Health remembers the mandatory anti-rabies vaccination of dogs, cats and ferrets and the identification by microchip of dogs, whose work can be performed in any of the veterinary clinics existing in this municipality.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects mammals and therefore also man, so that in order to prevent cases of human rabies it is necessary to vaccinate the animal population that can act as a carrier, and thus provide Of an adequate level of immunization in the animal population that coexists in the human environment.

As a result of the outbreak of rabies in the province of Toledo in previous years, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the publication of the Order of July 25, 2013, the Departments of Agriculture and Water and Health and Social Policy, established this measure for the control and eradication of rabies in animals and the prevention of risks to public health.

In this regard, it established mandatory annual rabies vaccination of domestic animals of human habitat, and specifically of canine, feline and mustélidos species (ferrets) located in the Region of Murcia.

Rabies vaccination must be performed on dogs and ferrets from 3.5 months of age, cats from 5 months of age onwards, and annually revaccinate.

In the case of puppies reaching this age on dates after the period established as mandatory or adults whose last annual vaccination has occurred after that period, vaccination will be carried out according to the usual guidelines by the responsible doctors.

Rabies vaccination is considered a mandatory treatment in dogs, cats and ferrets, so that non-application of the same is considered a serious and punishable offense by this City.

Likewise, it is recalled that it is mandatory to identify the animals in dogs within a maximum period of 3 months of age or a month after their acquisition, through the implantation of a microchip.

Vaccination and identification are performed at any of the local veterinary clinics.
