The City Council of Totana, as well as numerous institutions and public administrations, today commemorates, on May 31, World No Tobacco Day, at the request of the World Health Organization (WHO), in order to raise public awareness about The risks of tobacco use and promote effective control policies.
This year the WHO campaign has the motto "Tobacco, a threat to development" with the intention of prioritizing and streamlining efforts to combat tobacco use within the framework of the measures proposed by Agenda 2030 for Development Sustainable.
Specifically, this intervention aims to facilitate compliance with goal 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to reduce premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases worldwide, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by one third.
The latest available data show that in the Region of Murcia 30.6% of men and 26.4% of women are smokers.
To this population, and especially to the population group aged between 30 and 45 years, the campaign is directed, whose motto is "Gain life. Quitting now is easier".
