The General Archive of the region delivered to the municipality of Totana five scrolls of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries after restoration (12/03/2016)

The Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson has restored five medieval scrolls on the history of Totana that were donated by the local council together with other documents for digitization and subsequent dissemination through the Project Crimson.

The general director of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, presented the scrolls to the Mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, and welcomed the cooperation of the municipality "in the preservation and dissemination of the rich documentary heritage of the Region of Murcia which takes place through the Crimson Project, which has already enabled the digitization of around one million pages over the last decade. "

This project is an initiative coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and funded by the Integra Foundation, under the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment.

The Crimson Project was launched in 2004 by the Autonomous Community and the corresponding phase in 2015 has proceeded to the digitization of municipal documents dated during the reign of Charles V (1516-1556), whose enthronement is now serving 500 years.

The City Council of Totana, like other municipalities in the region that preserved manuscripts of these dates in their documentary funds, referred to the General Archive of the Region of Murcia to proceed with digitization, accompanied by seven ancient documents, recently donated to consistory by researcher Rosa Ginés López.

Because of their status, five of them, written on parchment and dated between 1374 and 1494, have been restored in the laboratory of the General Archive, which has slowed its decline and contributed to the proper conservation of some documents of obvious interest to the history of the Region of Murcia.

The scrolls, of various sizes and formats are real provisions and confirmation letters privileges on the jurisdiction of Aledo, tax exemptions for residents of the municipality and distribution of land in the municipality, and were referred at the time by the kings of Castilla and the Master of Santiago, military order which owned the Villa.

Also, have also deposited the Municipal Ordinances of 1888 and the writing of pricing and concord granted by the municipalities of Ricote, Villanueva and Ojós, original 1773 (collected in a transfer of 1912), "which shows us that sometimes a historical document continues to recognize rights and administrative force expands over time, "he added the director general of Cultural Property.

In addition to the already digitized documents still in possession of municipalities and other institutions, the General Archive of the region custody around 7.8 million documents and records and 1.1 million photographs held on 84 kilometers of shelving.

It documents both the Community and the Central Government in the region, from different municipalities and missing entities such as the Provincial Government.
