The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, has delivered to the Mayor of Aledo, Simon Alcaraz, of the 123 digital documents containing medieval documents XVI and XVII century in the archives municipal de Totana, also affecting the city of Aledo, at a ceremony held today in the City of Aledo Plenary Hall.
The work of scanning, as explained Totana Mayor, began in 2005 and was done in several stages under various agreements signed with the Autonomous Region for the digitization of all documentation prior to the sixteenth century, later was preserved in the Municipal Archives, funded this operation under regional budgets.
Martínez Andreo explained that from now all the residents of the town of Aledo, professionals and students can learn first hand about the historicity of two separate municipalities without having to travel to Totana.
The delivery of these documents so important to the idiosyncrasies of the localities, affirms once again, as stated by the mayor, the relationship between the municipalities is unique because "we feel like brothers."
For his part, Mayor of Aledo mayor thanked the totanero the donation of these documents that covers the history when the two cities were one.
The two city leaders have made delivery of literature on the municipalities so that it can be accessed by residents in the municipal archives.
Thus, the Martínez Andreo said that "from now Aledo citizens will be able to have a new tool for consultation and study of medieval documents of the municipality, and that was in his day Totana Community autonomous project within the Crimson (catalog files in the region of Murcia on the Information Society) for cataloging and digitization of documentary heritage. "
In the preparation of this work has involved the Integra Foundation (under the Directorate General of Technological Innovation and Information Society) and the Seneca Foundation of Science and Technology Agency of the Region of Murcia (General Directorate of Archives and Libraries ) in addition to the municipal officers of the City of Totana and other consistory.
Finally, the municipal councilor totanero expressed joy and satisfaction for the recovery of these historic documents for the municipality and can deliver it to the City of Aledo, "with whom we share so many historic ties."
Project Crimson
CARMESI project is the inventory, cataloging and digitization of all the medieval documents kept in the archives of the region.
The objective pursued is to achieve its preservation and subsequent disclosure through the use of new digital and electronic technologies.
In its day, the General Directorate of Archives and Libraries sent a digital copy of these documents to the City of Totana as a security measure and for processing and cataloging, and in order to improve the conservation of the originals and promote such practices.
In the first phase Crimson digitized all the medieval documents kept in public archives of the Region of Murcia, between 1245, when the first document preserved to 1504 year of the death of Isabel the Catholic.
This work involved the digitization of 70,000 images.
In the second phase have been digitized all the Chapter Acts of the XVI century for the former Kingdom of Murcia, which has involved the scanning of about 105,000 pages.
Also during the year 2007 was the third phase of which was to digitize the Chapter Acts of the seventeenth century, a total of more than 200,000 pages.
