The Association of the Virgin and Martyr Santa Eulalia de Mérida donates an image of Santa Eulalia to GACA XI (05/12/2020)

| The work has been made by the totanero imager, Domingo García Espejo | The Association of the Virgin and Martyr Santa Eulalia de Mérida has donated an image of the Martyr Santa Eulalia to the XI Field Artillery Group (GACA XI).

The act took place on December 4, the day of the celebration of the patron saint of the Artillery Weapon, Santa Bárbara, and during the military acts that have taken place in the barracks of the General Menacho Base. The Association, aware of the fraternal ties that unite them with GACA XI and with the desire to reinforce them, and that from this artillery unit they feel closer to that affection that is professed in Mérida and so that the Virgin and Martyr Santa Eulalia extend their protection among all the men and women who are part of this Unit, decided some time ago to take steps so that in the General Menacho barracks, there would be an image of our Santa Eulalia, and they also consider her as their Santa Eulalia. After the Eucharist in honor of Santa Bárbara, the image of Santa Eulalia was blessed by the military chaplain of the Air Base, José Fernández Macías, and later transferred to the esplanade of the Base where the military acts took place to make the donation. After the awarding of decorations, the president of the Association and honorary gunner, Luis Miguel Domínguez, made a speech before the military formation evoking his childhood memories, he pointed out that he belongs to a generation of Mérida closely linked to the old ATP XXI Self-propelled Artillery Group, and that during his military service, carried out in that Group, comes his connection with and admiration for the work carried out by the Spanish Armed Forces. The president pointed out that when he had the honor of presiding over the Santa Eulalia Association, “he was waiting impatiently for the date of December 4, to visit you and together celebrate the Santa Barbara festival.

That day was for all of us who visited you from Mérida a very special day, since since we entered this barracks, we longed for your presence among us, but at the same time we perceived that our city was very present among you, in your uniforms, in your badges and scripts, and especially in your hearts ”.Finally he pointed out that “it is our wish that you feel this image of Santa Eulalia as something yours and that you trust in it your sorrows and your joys, your projects and your hopes.

Trust her and Santa Eulalia will not disappoint you.

That is at least our wish ”.The General of the XI Brigade, Francisco Javier Romero Marí, who presided over the event together with the Lieutenant Colonel of GACA XI, Rodrigo José Hernández Navarro, expressed their appreciation for the donation and expressed the beauty of the image and their willingness to protect it.

The image of Santa Eulalia will be located in a place of honor in the script room of the Artillery Group.THE PICTUREThe image that represents the virgin and martyr Santa Eulalia de Mérida, is the work of the young image maker from Totana (Murcia), Domingo García Espejo, (02/22/1965).It is made of linden wood from a model of his property from which the structure of the image is roughened using the point technique and then the corresponding fineness and details are given by hand.

The polychrome technique is on live carving, not using stucco at any time, so the carving work is more detailed and polished.

Its polychrome consists of a gold stew in the tempera egg technique, with veiled oil incarnations, it bears its attributes (hornito and palm) in silver leaf.FROM TOTANA TO MERIDA "City of Santa Eulalia"."It is an honor that the association of the martyr Santa Eulalia de Mérida entrusted me with this work, one day in April I received a call because they had seen the image of the Saint in the Mérida version on the web and I promised to do it wood carving "what a coincidence that we are looking for an image of Sta Eulalia, and we have come to find it in Totana" I replied, where else are you going to find Sta Eulalia? In Totana, city of Sta Eulalia. From here, I would like to thank the association, those wonderful people, Irrael, Luis Miguel and the others who have not had telephone contact but who have been present.Long live Sta Eulalia.
