First episode of strong heat in the Murcia Region in 2020 (30/06/2020)

| July will start with a notable rise in temperatures | Today ends a month of June in which it has been hot, as is appropriate in this month in our area, but without excesses.

On the other hand, July is going to start with a notable rise in temperatures, thus producing an episode of strong heat, although far from the historical maximum values.

It will be two days with very high maximum temperatures, especially on Wednesday, so in no case will it be a heat wave.A cold air mass over the Atlantic Ocean, which moves to the east, will push the warm air mass over the Peninsula towards the Mediterranean.

The west wind and temperatures of about 25 ºC at about 1,500 meters of altitude will make temperatures around 40 ºC in some points of the Mediterranean provinces, such as Murcia, Almería and Valencia. In the Region of Murcia it is probable that 40ºC will be reached in some points of the Vega del Segura, even locally higher.

For this reason, in this territory, AEMET has activated the orange warning.

In the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas, the Northwest and the Altiplano, the warning will be yellow due to highs that can reach 39 ºC in low areas and in the valley.

On the other hand, on the coast there will be no warning because the sea breezes will keep the thermometer at noon at a maximum of 30 ºC.This intense heat will be accompanied by suspended haze, so we will see the yellowish sky, as is already happening today.

In addition, the ultraviolet index will be extreme due to the verticality of the sun at this time, which invites more extreme precautions, if possible. The morning from Wednesday to Thursday will be hot due to the west wind.

The maximum temperatures on Thursday will drop slightly inland and rise slightly on the coast, so it will continue to be quite hot and the yellow warning will be activated for maximum temperatures of around 38ºC in the Northwest and Vega del Segura. On Friday we will notice a clearer drop in maximum temperatures, ending this episode of heat.Protección Civil Totana recommends not to carry out outdoor activities, especially between 12:00 and 20:00, drink plenty of water, eat light meals, wear light and breathable clothing, pay special attention to children and the elderly and do not leave never people and pets locked in the car in the sun, as it is very dangerous.
