"Reflections listening to the sound and observing the flight of our swifts" (20/05/2020)

| Juan José Cánovas, mayor of Totana | (We will win because this is only a small bump in the road)It happens to me sometimes when I feel overwhelmed or worried.

I long to return to the protection of my mother's lap.

In other cases, those early mornings, waiting at the Door of Juan Antonio Lorca's Fabric Shop, waiting for Don Andrés (The "little priest") to help him at the Aurora mass.

As always, there are the swifts in the sky of the Plaza.

An image that has not changed even though it seems that they are less numerous than then.We live in convulsive situations and they are moments to remain calm because, despite this incident, we are going to leave.

The measure that we do not go to Phase II while the period set by those responsible for Public Health and Epidemiology is completed.

I consider it a preventive measure and that we must accept in order to be safe and not take risks.

Prudence is always a good advisor.

As I understand, transparency is.Totana has fewer total cases than many municipalities in the Region and high-risk groups such as La Purísima Residence where the virus has not entered thanks to the immense work of professionals: Neither in Day Centers or Home Help Service.

Generally speaking, we have done very well.If we have done well and the results are not bad; WHY DO WE NOT PASS PHASE ON MONDAY, 25?Simply as a precaution.

We are facing a very treacherous disease and in the last days, there have been 6 positives in Totana, discovering a possible outbreak among 50 other people who have been placed on surveillance during the virus incubation period.

This does not mean that they are 50 positive.

But these days of prevention must pass.WHERE DOES THE SPROUT COME FROM?The outbreak is not generated in Totana and appears by a person from outside who, inadvertently, infects or has contact with the affected people and in surveillance.

I do not think it is correct to give details of anyone because it does not contribute anything to the solution of the problem and it is something that can happen to anyone.IN WHAT SITUATION ARE YOU IN?I have no data to think that they evolve badly.

On the contrary, the news is that they are getting better and that is encouraging.WHEN DOES THE MAYOR FIND OUT?Last Wednesday, at the last minute, a Public Health leader called me and informed me of everything and the measures they proposed.

He tells me that the press can get to know him and this information is always better to be channeled through the Mayor.Immediately, as I always do, I inform the Corporation, through the spokespersons and the Security Forces. After an hour, I receive a message from a journalist stating that there has been a meeting at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital and that they are very concerned about the outbreak in Totana.I write a post on my networks, warning that we must take extreme precautions because we are in a very delicate moment.

On Thursday morning, when various media outlets are calling the Mayor, I recorded a video exposing the situation with complete reserve.During the morning, I have to attend to the media that appear at the Town Hall or call to find out the Mayor's opinion.

As it can not be otherwise, I attend them with education and trying to speak sparingly.

I DO NOT CALL ANYONE.

Among other things, because I am "quite saturated" with the situation. On Friday, they ask us for collaboration from Public Health to support the transfer of a part of "affected" to Lorca.

We collaborate with them in everything, with the police, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Daily Cleaning and Disinfection Services ...

That Friday night, I receive data on where they are admitted and complete peace of mind that everything is controlled. From that moment, as usually happens, the hoaxes appear, audios of people who do not identify themselves or give opinions without knowing reality at all.

These things are quite confusing.

More when they are mixed with the grudges and political rancor that I do not think are appropriate.

The Mayor has the function of representing the people and I am very sorry if someone bothers you.During these days, I have had to endure comments of all kinds, little less than accusing me of "inventing the outbreak" or pouring opinions from people, at least undocumented or with the aim of discrediting the work of the Mayor.

It is the right of each one and mine (also my responsibility), to protect my people.Once the Report of the Epidemiology Service was known and the decision of the Regional Government, which I accept, it turns out that from "having invented the outbreak" I became "guilty of the virus".

It can no longer be said that it is an invention and the question, now by some, is to attack the Mayor in any way.

Even with insults bordering on the personal.A little reflection that allows me to share.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ABOUT THE MAYOR IF LAST THURSDAY DIDN'T INFORM THE POPULATION ABOUT THE OUTBREAK? IF I REPORT, I AM ACCUSED OF ALARMIST.

IF I DO NOT REPORT, NOW; WOULD YOU SAY I HIDDEN TO THE PEOPLE WHAT I KNEW?WHAT SHOULD PRIME AT THIS TIME? THE ECONOMY OR HEALTH?For me, clearly, the priority is HEALTH.

If Health or Life is lost, nothing remains.

Everything else is secondary.

Those of us who know what it is to lose health have gone through that trance and there is no more important value than health and life.

The economy is very important for a people.

Especially in sectors as punished as Commerce or Hospitality.

But a week is not the time to become more serious and it is better to exercise caution in order to pass the phase with the maximum guarantees.

That is my opinion and I will not change it even if it is the greatest wear in the world.WHAT DOES IT MEAN NOT TO PASS PHASE ON MONDAY, 25?Algunos inconvenientes, pero en términos generales no irreversibles.
