Vandals destroy a station of the Via Crucis de La Santa (01/05/2020)

| Another of the 14 stations has also suffered damage | Vandals have dethroned the Second Station (Jesus carries the cross) of the Stations of the Cross and have also damaged the Fourth Station (Jesus meets his mother Mary). It should be remembered that there are fourteen sculptural groups that make up the Via Crucis of the site of the Heart of Jesus, located near the sanctuary of the patron saint Santa Eulalia. The Via Crucis complex was commissioned by the parish priest Juan José Noguera in 1965 and was carried out by Anastasio Martínez Valcárcel between the years 1966 and 1968 in order to provide a penitential tour placing the rooms in line with nature and integrated into the surrounding landscape. The Via Crucis has fourteen sculptural groups in which 33 figures 1.70 meters high, made of artificial stone and in an expressionist style are integrated; while the monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the work of Nicolás Martínez in 1958, is a 9-meter-high sculpture in an attitude of walking on the ball of the world, which rises on a prismatic base of another 9 meters that it houses in its inside a chapel.Stations of the Way of the Cross:First Station.
