The Municipal Center of Social Services and the Local Police of Totana have enabled the School Hall Pavilion, located in the Olímpico-Las Peras neighborhood next to the IES Prado Mayor, in order to provide people with a provisional and exceptional resource " homeless â€for the duration of the house confinement decreed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This initiative has been launched, with the collaboration of Civil Protection and the help of numerous local companies, in record time;
and for a few days now a total of 8 people, six men and two women, have been using this infrastructure temporarily until the state of alarm passes.
These are people who live in important sub-human conditions of unsanitary conditions, with humidity and dirt, and who do not have the usual possibilities of cleaning and feeding.
These people shower and clean daily and also feed and dress thanks to donations from families and companies, channeled through Caritas, as an open resource to avoid being on the street during this period of confinement.
In addition, it has been equipped with a washing machine, tables and chairs, a small refrigerator and a microwave.
Civil Protection has yielded sleeping bags and blankets although at the moment it is not being used as overnight accommodation.
The plates, glasses and cutlery material has been donated by “Almacén El Soberanoâ€;
while Cáritas has delivered clothing, food and toiletries.
On the part of the municipal technicians of Social Services and Local Police, a daily follow-up is made in this transitory situation so that this peculiar context does not lead to any conflict of coexistence.
