They hold a meeting of the Social Action Group for Emergencies in order to give a coordinated and effective response to the most vulnerable population (25/03/2020)

The plenary hall of the Totana City Council today hosted a meeting of the Social Action Group for Emergencies with the aim of giving a coordinated and efficient response to the most vulnerable population of this municipality.

The same, which was chaired by the mayor Juan José Cánovas, was attended by the councilor for Social Welfare, Javier Baños, and representatives of the NGOs involved and who operate with population groups at risk of social exclusion.

During the meeting, the aim was to find out what action each resource can take in the face of the difficult situation that society is facing due to this serious health crisis in order to face it and coordinate it in Totana.

This Social Action Group for Emergencies has analyzed cases of single people and cohabitation units or families that need support to care for members in situations of dependency.

Cases of families in quarantine have also been addressed, either because they have especially vulnerable people among their members or because they have had accredited contact with a contagion agent.

On the other hand, situations of people or families with lack of economic resources to cover their basic needs have been addressed.

Sometimes they do have the financial means but lack a family or social support network.

These are individuals and families in substandard housing or on the street and others that may have been detected.

To the above, other difficulties must be added, such as the lack of knowledge of the language by many people, the lack of identification documentation in others, and the risk of contagion when handling documentation proving the situation, in addition to that derived from direct contact with people.

All the information and conclusions have been synthesized in a document that will be updated immediately in the event of any change that occurs in the coming days.

Food provider entities

Another part of the meeting has been directed to address with entities that provide food and other resources in kind with the aim of immediately articulating a coordinated device that enhances the response that is being given to individuals and families by entities for the coverage of their basic needs.

This issue has also been addressed since we are facing an exponential increase in people in need.

Technicians from the Department of Social Welfare and Elderly, Local Police, Civil Protection, Health Centers, Cáritas Santiago, Cáritas Tres Avemarías, Spanish Red Cross and Social Services Center for Primary Care have met at the work meeting.
