The mayor calls for the entire business activity of the municipality to be paralyzed except for that related to agriculture and food supply (20/03/2020)

The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, has publicly asked that all business activity in the municipality of Totana be stopped immediately and urgently, with the exception of the professional sectors related to agriculture and food supply and supply;

and advocates the exclusive maintenance of basic health and pharmacy services, and citizen security and emergencies.

The first mayor appeared publicly to account for the measures taken in view of the serious and complicated situation that is looming for the next few days as a result of the coronavirus health epidemic.

Juan José Cánovas predicts "very complicated days" before what the paralysis of all economic business activity in this municipality recommends except the usual and justified supply of basic necessities.

Furthermore, it requires the house confinement of all citizens and that they become aware “once and for all†of the state of alarm that Spain is experiencing;

at the same time that it reiterates the "critical moment" that is lived and that will be faced in the coming days.

The mayor of Totana wants to send these institutional messages after learning about the situation in the Region of Murcia in connection with the virtual meeting he held this morning with the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, the 45 mayors from Murcia, the regional vice president , Isabel Franco, and the directors of the Presidency and Health, Javier Celdrán and Manuel Villegas.

Cánovas supports and urges the Security Corps and Forces, who are exposing their health and that of their families, to "forcefully punish" those who bypass established norms and restrictions, irresponsibly endangering the lives of people .

Similarly, he insists that the best formula to win the battle is "each one from his home" and appeals that any volunteer procedure must be managed from home.

He also informs that Civil Protection will coordinate from this weekend different volunteer actions and other neighborhood and social group tools to help fight this crisis.

In this regard, he has cited the offer of several agricultural entrepreneurs to transfer tanks that allow the disinfection of public spaces and areas prone to contagion, with the coordination of municipal veterinary and public health services.

He has also referred to the initiative that the Spanish Red Cross in Totana is promoting, with the invaluable collaboration of seamstresses and people with sewing machines, to make protective masks from their homes for health professionals and the most vulnerable population.

The mayor added that work is being done to enable a phone number so that, via WhatsApp and from homes, neighbors interested in volunteering can do so, coordinated by Civil Protection volunteers.

He adds that the El Paretón-Cantareros Medical Office has been closed, so that patients are referred to the Totana-Sur Health Center;

while users who carry home programs will continue to be cared for at home.

Lastly, it asks the public officials and employees of the City Council not to forget that they are public service personnel and that, at any time, they can be claimed for the provision of services of general interest.
