The Totana City Council has today established a series of extraordinary measures to reduce the impact of the coronavirus and prevent the spread of the epidemic in this municipality, among which the closure of all buildings and premises owned by the city, as well as the suspension of all activities or public events and programs promoted by this administration until March 31.

This date is, in any case, revisable or expandable depending on the evolution of the epidemic in the coming weeks.

In addition, likewise, the suspension of all activities organized by third parties in municipal offices is established without exception.

The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, and all the spokespersons for the municipal groups have met this morning, urgently and extraordinarily, at the Board of Spokespersons, in order to establish specific guidelines regarding municipal powers in Totana , as preventive measures against the risk of transmission of the coranovirus.

In this regard, it has been decided, with immediate application, to suspend or postpone all the sports, cultural and social activities organized by the different municipal departments scheduled until March 31;

as well as closing public facilities such as the Municipal Center for the Elderly, social centers, AAVV premises, libraries and study rooms, among others.

Nor will events be held that bring about the concentration of many people (parties, bingos, raffles, etc.);

and private entities, associations or non-municipal groups (Illustrious Cabildo Superior de Procesiones, Federation of Peñas del Carnaval, brotherhoods and brotherhoods, sports clubs, etc.) are advised to follow the same protocol recommendations to avoid crowding people for the sake of to avoid infections.

In addition, it is requested that the precautions of protection and self-protection be taken (keep distances, physical contacts and basic hygienic measures) in places susceptible to concentration of people (supermarkets, shopping centers, funeral homes, etc.).

Likewise, training activities and student practices in municipal offices are suspended;

as well as the trips, excursions or courses planned in municipal facilities.

In the coming days, the probable suspension of the weekly market on Wednesdays will be considered, whose celebration or not will be reported in the coming days.

In relation to the activity of public services that are not the direct responsibility of the City Council, such as educational centers (whose classes are suspended from next Monday, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education), day centers for disability or others, the provisions ordered by the competent authorities and bodies will be exclusively followed.

Likewise, it is warned that those people who want to make use of the municipal services, as far as possible, do so only in the case that it is essential;

and it is recommended to carry out all the administrative procedures or procedures that are possible by telephone or telematic means.

In any case, the access of the number of people in the waiting rooms of the municipal services of attention to the public will be restricted to a maximum of 4 or 5 at a time (SAC, Urban Planning, Social Services, etc.), maintaining the safety distances and adopting the hygienic measures indicated by the health authorities.

Municipal officials recall that the best way to combat the epidemic is prevention by following the guidelines for protection and self-protection on an individual basis and in a responsible manner in order to minimize risky situations.

The local authorities reiterate a message to the tranquility, prudence and trust in the professionals and the public health system, taking preventive measures and assuming protection and self-protection guidelines so as not to collapse the closest public health resources, in this case, the Centers Health and Emergency Services.

Finally, they await the understanding and acceptance of the measures to mitigate the crisis caused by COVID-19.
