The mayor of Totana clarifies the latest hoax that runs through networks and WhatsApp (08/03/2020)

"AN CLARIFICATION BEFORE THE RUMORS"

A "news" (rumor or hoax) is running through the networks and WhatsApp that I consider appropriate to clarify to avoid unnecessary alarms and the security that any news will be duly informed to everyone by official means.

For everyone's peace of mind, from the first moment of this health crisis, a Commission composed of health officials, the City Council, the Security and Civil Protection forces is operating in Totana.

Its function is to channel the preventive information or the measures considered by the Health Authorities.

For obvious reasons these decisions are not given excessive publicity to avoid misunderstandings.

It is commented, in the rumor that circulates, that the street of the Emergency Service has been cut and a photograph of the emergency ambulance is also published, with a professional equipped with anti-contagion protection elements.

I want to explain the reasons:

This morning, two people went to the Emergency Department with symptoms that could be the flu.

Those responsible -in risk prevention-, have activated the protocol and have notified the Emergency Service to be transferred to the Hospital and do the tests.

Naturally and logically, the necessary precautions have been taken to avoid risks to professionals or users of the Service and Emergencies.

That is the reason why we professionals have equipped themselves with anti-contagion elements as it appears in the photo.

Prevention.

At the time of the evacuation the street has been cut for a few minutes by Local Police, always following the protocols and indications of the professionals.

That fact has been photographed by someone and by circulating that image it could be deduced that the problem exists in Totana.

Issue that is neither confirmed nor should we create an unfounded alarm.

I want you to be sure that nothing is going to be hidden, but it is also not fair to generate alarm among the population without justified reasons.

We will always be those who are telling us the Health Authorities and the great professionals of the Public Health Service that luckily we enjoy in Spain.

It is not fair to be alarmed.

There are no reasons and if there is something, in addition to informing, the necessary measures will be taken.

But I insist ... At this time there are no reasons to be alarmed and if to continue with the precautions and indications, in our daily lives, which are published by health officials.

We are in direct contact with those responsible to get to know the evolution.

Once again, our people must show maturity and tranquility.

Do not follow the hoaxes or rumors.

Juan José Cánovas, mayor of Totana
