United Left supports Totana Field and Livestock in the mobilization of the 21st day for fair prices (12/02/2020)

1. IU of Totana expresses its full support for the mobilization convened by COAG, ASAJA and UPA and supported by CCOO and UGT, for next February 21 in the city of Murcia, on the occasion of the denunciation of the low prices received by the producers in origin that do not compensate the costs of production, and for the denunciation of the speculative abusive commercial practices of the great agri-food distribution chains.

2. IU of Totana considers an intervention of public administrations in the sector necessary in such a way that minimum and fair prices are guaranteed by law that make agricultural and livestock farms viable, thus also ensuring the survival of an essential sector for the fight against climate change, to face the demographic and land occupation challenges, as well as preserve a culture and economic practices necessary for human existence itself.

3. IU of Totana will require the Ministry of CARM to increase control and inspection systems to avoid unfair competition that is generated with the entry of products from third countries that do not meet the required quality standards in Spain.

4. From IU of Totana, we are demanding that the European Commission should review the CAP's aid in such a way that the benefit of them falls sufficiently to small and medium-sized farmers and ranchers of family farms and to take into account the Professional farmer mainly supporting those who live and work in the agricultural activity, betting on the family farming model.

In this regard, we see with optimism the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture to open a dialogue between the large areas of food distribution and agricultural unions.

From IU-Verdes we will work because this initiative is successful for farmers and ranchers.

5. From IU of Totana sense that the cuts produced in aid, both from the CAP and state and regional aid, to agriculture and livestock are reversed.

In this line we are supporting the initiative of IU in the European Parliament in the sense of demanding from the European institutions a greater intervention to defend agriculture against large traders, since there are no minimum prices, these are the that dictate market norms.

6. It is time to make a great social and legislative commitment to the regulation of short marketing cycles of agricultural and livestock products, with products of proximity and labeling of origin, compared to the speculative and monopolistic practices of the large distribution groups.

7. From IU of Totana we believe that it is necessary to continue opposing the development of international trade agreements such as TTIP that have a powerful economic, environmental and labor rights impact and delve into the problem of overproduction and price devaluation.
