The Plenary agrees to regulate the use of pyrotechnics in this municipality, and the protection of the population and animals affected by its use (05/02/2020)

The Plenary Session of the City Council of Totana agreed, in its last ordinary session, to regulate the use of pyrotechnics in this municipality and the protection of the population and animals affected by its use;

as well as establishing a calendar where the days and times allowed to make use of pyrotechnic material are set.

The plenary agreement, reached unanimously and at the proposal of the Municipal Socialist Group, includes information and awareness campaigns on the negative effects of the indiscriminate use of pyrotechnic material and domestic measures to mitigate the effects described.

This initiative would be promoted in schools and health centers in Totana, and through different communication tools such as social networks, the official corporate page of the City Council, social media or other alternatives deemed appropriate.

In addition, the proposal establishes the regulation of the use of firecrackers on public roads by individuals, as established by the corresponding municipal services.

In the same way, it was agreed that the City Council of Totana propitiates the transition from the current pyrotechnic show to new forms of visual spectacle such as silent pyrotechnics or laser light shows.

The motion refers to the pyrotechnics that uses noise and whose use is linked to the celebration of events of all kinds, such as festivities, cultural events, competitions, and so on.

Generally, in the villages use of firecrackers that cause negative consequences to the elderly, babies, sick people and especially to pets.

For example, for people with autism spectrum disorders, the explosions involve torture as they generate crises, aggressive attitudes and even self-harm, given that altering their environment causes an increase in blood cortisol and this produces stereotyped, repetitive and aggressive behaviors.

Also people suffering from various diseases such as Alzheimer's, dizziness or other mental illnesses can cause disorientation, headaches, nervousness and stress, among other pathologies or symptoms.

Babies can also suffer the consequences of the use of pyrotechnics, since there are studies that show that it can cause tinnitus and hearing loss, sometimes momentary, but sometimes irreversible, so specialists recommend that protections be placed on the ears to children who should be exposed to such extreme noises.

The little ones that are exposed to the pyrotechnics can also begin to suffer from sleep disorders, something extremely harmful especially among the little ones since as we well know they are in full growth and development stage, for which they need to rest properly without complications .

Depending on the structure of the motion in its exhibition, the World Health Organization, an exposure to a decibel level of more than 110 DB, an exposure that is generated with the use of pyrotechnics, causes hearing damage immediately.

On the other hand, various animal associations such as the Association for Ethical Treatment of Animals (ATEA) denounce the dangers of pyrotechnics to our pets: their effects range from tachycardia, tremor, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, loss of control , fear even death.

Cats and dogs feel fear and run away, which can cause an accident or get lost, we check this by seeing their unusual behavior, such as escaping, jumping, or going through windows and this can cause serious injuries.

The birds suffer with tachycardias that can cause death.

In these cases, it is necessary for pet owners to know when a fireworks show is going to take place, in order to take measures that protect pets, such as not leaving their pet at home tied, which can provoke the involuntary hanging of the animal or take your pet to a safe place so that he does not suffer panic or simply remove it as much as possible from the pyrotechnic act.
