The Local Police of Totana, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), will participate in the Campaign for monitoring and control of vehicle conditions, which will take place between January 20 and 26.
In recent years there has been a progressive aging of the car park that circulates through our streets.
The age of the vehicle constitutes a risk factor, so it is essential to carry out an adequate maintenance and tuning of the main safety elements of the vehicle, whether it is driven by city or by road.
The campaign will mainly focus on inspecting the conditions of the tires, lighting and turn signals, license plates and vehicle documentation.
It should be stressed that having the Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV) in force is mandatory for all vehicles.
According to data from the DGT, a considerable percentage of vehicles still circulates with the expired ITV.
The accident data reflect that the risk of death or serious injury is multiplied by two when comparing the accidents registered with vehicles 10 to 15 years old, in relation to vehicles less than 5 years old.
Company vehicles have higher rates of tire defects, as in the case of vans.
Hence, it is advisable to regularly check the depth of the drawing and make sure that the wear has not exceeded the warning light of the tire, which indicates the legal minimum, 1.6 mm, although it is recommended that the drawing retain a thickness of at least 3 mm.
Therefore, the Local Police of Totana will intensify this week the controls on the streets of the municipality, continuing with the objective of improving Road Safety and reducing accidents and their consequences.
