The Plenary Session of the City Council of Totana has unanimously agreed to request the Mancomunidad de Canales del Taibilla (MCT) to contemplate the provision of water to the industrial estate "El Saladar" and the deputation of La Ă‘orica and the districts of El Paretón -Cantareros and El Raiguero in the Reversible Variant project of the Catargena Canal pieces 1, 2 and 3 HMS 0 to 317 (MU / Totana, Alhama de Murcia and Mazarrón).
The Consistory will request the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the presidency of the Commonwealth of Channels of the Taibilla to contemplate the needs and related requests in the motion of the Mayor's Office, discussed in the last ordinary session, and execute them to guarantee the endowment, needs and improvements to our municipal term.
In addition, the City Council, through its technical and administrative resources, will collaborate in everything necessary to facilitate the drafting of the execution project and the works.
The Official State Gazette dated October 17, 2019 published the tender for the referenced project in which the Ministry plans the construction of a Reversible Canal from the Coronada deposit (in the municipality of Mazarrón) to the Partidor de Lorca (in the boundary between the terms of Alhama de Murcia and Totana).
This Reversible Channel, with an expected diameter of 1,200 millimeters, has the function of guaranteeing and strengthening the supply to Totana, Mazarrón and Alhama by means of the water supply from the Valdelentisco desalination plant to the current Channel in the Partidor de Lorca for which it has already been developed and executed the first phase from IDAM to the Coronadas deposit.
According to the agreement, it is about replacing in the future the current Channel that, according to the memory of this ambitious public work, poses many problems showing signs of obsolescence due to the age and characteristics of the work with an age of over 70 years .
This channel supplies the districts of El Raiguero and El Paretón-Cantareros, for which the City Council of Totana uses drives and pressure groups (in the case of Paretón and Cantareros for the low level) to provide the deposits it maintains its coast
The aforementioned project could be a reality in a short time because of the resources of the Mancomunidad de Canales del Taibilla and the urgent needs of this “reversible siphon” that could raise the desalination plant's water or conduct water in the opposite direction from the canal, in the Partidor from Lorca to Mazarrón, Cartagena or the districts of Totana.
In the same motion, it is recalled that there is a history in the 1999/2003 period, when the Siphon between Lorca and the same Partidor was tendered and executed, with the same reversible sense and in which the new deposit that supplies the hull could be obtained from MCT from Los Secanos and Lébor, both managed and maintained by the agency under the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
Today the opportunity is offered to reduce and solve the problems of the districts of Totana, producing a very important saving in energy consumption and maintenance in the Framework of the Adjustment Plan committed to the Ministry of Finance.
Since the publication in the BOE of this decisive project, the mayor, Juan José Cánovas, has held meetings with MCT technicians to discuss the viability of our planned plans that would go in three fundamental lines in what directly interests the City Council and the municipality of Totana
One would be, the guarantee and provision of water to the industrial estate, with a direct intake, when the projected pipeline runs in the limit of terms between Alhama and Totana that would guarantee a security against industrial projects to be installed in the polygon and the increase with flow to the Ă‘orica district, from El Saladar to the Guadalentín river, where hundreds of homes, agricultural transformation companies and livestock farms are located.
In addition, the construction of a deposit or regulatory deposits would be allowed, which, like that of Lébor or Los Secanos, would be filled by gravity and supply the districts of Raiguero and Lébor, eliminating the significant costs for Totana in electrical energy and maintenance of facilities.
Finally, it would include the possibility, in the future, of requesting the infrastructure of roads or facilities, owned by MCT that would be deprecated in the area of ​​the Guadalentín Valley, the municipality of Totana, and that could generate a fundamental service activity of union between the zone in the Coto de la Pallaresa, bordering the urban helmet in the east zone and running from Las Suertes to the place of Los Guardianes in the district of El Paretón and Cantareros.
