"Taking into account that our Region concentrates a large part of the activity of the primary sector of the Region, we think it is fair that this Regional Government Department be transferred, establishing its headquarters in the neighboring municipality of Lorca"

The institutional political framework of the Region of Murcia was marked from the beginning of the regional stage by the so-called Murcia-Cartagena axis, in which the large region of Guadalentín was left, to which municipalities of the entity of Lorca and Totana belong.

In Murcia and Cartagena, the headquarters of the autonomous institutions were distributed, leaving the executive (both the Presidency of the CARM and the Governing Council), together with the Superior Court of Justice in the city of Murcia, and the autonomous parliament in Cartagena.

In addition, this axis has also functioned as a driver of attraction for the vast majority of state and regional public spending and investments throughout this democratic stage, a circumstance that has contributed to widening the development gap between the towns and cities of a region which today has very pronounced territorial imbalances.

The only decentralizing attempts at political power that have taken place in decades have always been driven by political and social actors from the city of Cartagena, since since the same Presidency of the Government of the Region has shown for the first time in many years the provision to modify, even if only partially, that political structure that was embodied in the first articles of our Statute of Autonomy.

The promise made public weeks ago by the Chief of the Murcian executive to make Cartagena the seat of the Ministry of Tourism opens a window of opportunity for our region that this time we should take advantage of.

This initiative is based on the special link that the historic city of Cartagena and its wide region have with the tourism sector.

With that same justifying support for the special connection of an economic sector with an area of ​​the region, we believe that the municipality of Lorca could become the headquarters of a central council of the Murcian autonomous government;

Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, taking into account that in this Region it concentrates a large part of the activity of the primary sector of the Region.

The transfer to the neighboring city of Lorca of the Ministry of Agriculture, which currently has more than 400 public workers, would give a very important boost to our Region, and therefore to the municipalities that comprise it.
