The Rural Association of Irrigators of the Raiguero denounces "the collusion of the Government of Murcia with the SCRATS" and the "overexploitation of water resources by large agribusiness companies" (14/10/2019)

The Association of Riparian Municipalities of the Entrepeñas and Buendía Reservoirs attended a "historic meeting with traditional irrigators of the Region of Murcia" to show that "the water war is not between communities, but against the particular interests of a series limited of agribusiness entrepreneurs and the Government of the Region, which protects them "

Gathered in Albacete, riverside and traditional farmers kept "a fruitful" meeting of opinions, in which the understanding prevailed above all, according to sources from the Association of Riparian Municipalities of the Entrepeñas and Buendía Reservoirs.

"The problem comes from above, of those who do not facilitate access to other sources of water, such as desalination, to favor the economic interests of those who handle the Transfer at will."

The irrigators denounced the "corrupt practices" of those who have been governing in the Region of Murcia for more than two decades.

"A scandal that there is no one to hide, with fish and crustaceans dying by the thousands at the feet of tourists," the statement said.

Thus, the riverside municipalities agreed to join the claim of the irrigators on desalinated water, with the campaign “If I am desalá, at 30 cents no moreâ€, with which the farmers seek a cheaper price â€that would allow them to give up largely to most of the municipalities of the water of the Trasvase, "according to the statement sent to Totana.com.

"It is a matter of costs, which the Government of López Miras has never been interested in solving," said the irrigators.

"It is a problem of armchairs, the lie of 'Water for all' keeps them up because it is the businessmen who place them in the Government."

"Practically, with the desalination plants the Transfer could be closed or, at least, brutally minimized."

"But it doesn't interest those who handle the money."

"Water 'wets' all that place where it passes," they said in reference to the power of money.

"50,000 hectares of illegal irrigation"

While it is true that there are certain areas that can only be irrigated with water from the Transfer, something that was also made clear, the consumption would be much lower.

Especially if one takes into account another of the complaints of Murcia's own irrigators, who claimed to know about 50,000 hectares of illegal irrigation broken by the large agribusiness corporations that have made the region their own farmhouse, “with the approval of some politicians boosted to power by the same lieutenants and their money. â€

As they denounced, "while the small farmer is hastily pursued, preventing him from drilling wells or regularizing desalination plants, big businessmen are allowed to break new irrigations incessantly and practices that have led to the current situation suffered by the Mar Menor."

"We wanted to denounce where the water is lost and the Government turns a deaf ear," they cried as they tried to explain the reason why, today, while drought decrees are being claimed, new fields are broken.
