About 30 people attend the informative talk about the family foster program for supervised minors, promoted by the Spanish Red Cross in Totana (07/10/2019)

The local Red Cross in Totana hosted last Thursday an information session on the family foster program for minors supervised by the Regional Administration that promotes this NGO, which was attended by about 30 people.

During the meeting, the Spanish Red Cross in the Region of Murcia presented this program, whose talk was reported and responded to the questions that arose about the figure of family foster care for minors.

The objective of the campaign is to increase the number of families willing to temporarily accommodate children, from 0 to 18 years old, who are supervised by the Administration separated from their parents so that they can grow in a stable family environment for a certain time.

At present, about 1,200 boys and girls in a situation of guardianship by the Regional Administration, as reported, of which 600 participate in the foster care by foreign families.

This campaign aims to increase the number of children welcomed by families who, once they decide to take the step, will receive training sessions, technical and economic support.

In the scheduled talk, a family from the municipality of San Javier will participate and will transfer their experience as a host family.

The event was framed in a cycle of talks that Red Cross offers in different parts of the Region of Murcia with the general objective of creating a culture of foster care, and publicizing and promoting foster care among society as an exercise of citizen solidarity.

The Spanish Red Cross, through its "Childhood in Social Difficulty" program, has a network of projects aimed at children in the Region, including family foster care.

This year, precisely as a novelty, the "In family, by right" campaign is launched within the framework of the family foster care project to sensitize potential families who want to participate and collaborate in the reception of children.

For more than 20 years, the Red Cross has supported this alternative care modality in the Region through a mixed management model between public services and the social initiative, based on the solidarity of citizens, which allows children to They are separated from their parents, grow in a stable family environment for a certain time.

It is an alternative of family coexistence for children who are in a situation of helplessness in order to provide a stable family environment when circumstances prevent them from developing their life with their family of origin.
