The sculptural group of Jesus and the Samaritan woman is exposed in the chapel of Los Dolores of the Church of Santiago (25/09/2019)

The sculptural group of Jesus and the Samaritan woman has been exposed since yesterday in the chapel of Los Dolores of the Church of Santiago el Mayor de Totana

As sources of the brotherhood reported, it is not a temporary exhibition, but will remain permanently there for the enjoyment of totaneros and visitors.

Jesus and the Samaritan woman

We have little data on the image of the Samaritan woman.

It is a wood carving, those of clothing, which responds to the characteristics of the aesthetics of the nineteenth century.

Some authors have wanted to see in it the good work of the sculptor Don Roque López or one of his disciples.

The truth is that we are offered in the aesthetic and compositional line that Salzillo created for the Californian brotherhood of Cartagena, although without reaching the beauty with which the Murcian imagery endowed the image of Californians, despite the eloquent expressiveness of the Samaritan woman of Totana, the grace and beauty of her face are also worthy of recognition.

Process together with the image of Jesus, Be seated before the well of Jacob.

The image of the Nazarene, without reaching the beauty of the Samaritan woman, is believed to come from the workshop of the sculptor Don Francisco Sánchez Araciel.

Both were restored in 1962, by the Murcian sculptor Mr. Sánchez Lozano.

In 1982, this great imaginer restored the size of the Samaritan woman again, to which I dedicate words of praise, astonished by her artistic quality.
