The prohibition of making fire in forest environments to avoid the risk of fire remains active until September 30 (03/09/2019)

Civil Protection in Totana recalls that the ban on making fire in forest environments remains active until September 30 to avoid the risk of fire;

so that during the period of high danger of forest fire, the use of fire in the recreational areas of natural spaces or agricultural burns is suspended.

To avoid the risk of forest fires during the months of June to September, the General Directorate of the Natural Environment implements preventive measures that pass through the prohibition of making use of fire within 400 meters of the forest land, as stated in the Infomur Plan.

This restriction translates into the prohibition of the use of fire with vegetable or gaseous fuels in recreational areas of natural areas, which implies the seal of barbecues;

and in the suspension of authorizations for agricultural burns, as well as in the prohibition of the launching of fireworks in forest areas or less than 400 meters away from them.

In the case of burning, however, they may be authorized in an extraordinary manner and under extraordinary preventive measures in case there is a phytosanitary risk, to prevent and mitigate the possible damage caused by pests and diseases, mainly on the remains of fruit trees of bone, almond and horticultural, reports Civil Protection.

The objective of these measures, together with the preventive work carried out throughout the year by environmental agents and brigades, is to minimize the risk of fire and preserve and conserve our forests, which act both as a refuge for the extraordinary regional biodiversity and as a barrier against to climate change

During the past year, when the restrictions were advanced to May 15 because the drought situation was more pressing, this period of greater risk was closed with the figure of 43 forest fires.

A total of 39 of these 42 fires are considered conatos to affect an area of less than one hectare, while the remaining four exceeded one hectare of affected area, one of the lowest figures of the last two decades in the Region of Murcia.
