They offer a series of warnings about smart products coinciding with World Consumer Rights Day (15/03/2019)

The Service of Advice to the User of the Municipal Services of the Department of Economic Development of the City of Totana carries out today, March 15, a series of warnings about the acquisition and purchase of smart products coinciding with the celebration of the World Day of the Rights of the Consumer .

Smart products are those devices with features that have to be managed through an internet connection in such a way that they receive, process and send information, can connect with each other and facilitate interactions between users.

These include smartphones, smart TV, tablet, smartwatch, speakers, toys, video game consoles, security cameras or baby monitors, among other products.

Undoubtedly, these products whose consumption is so fashionable, contribute to greater comfort and offer useful tools for many professionals, but negative aspects such as lack of privacy or security should not be overlooked.

Thus, depending on the device, there may be few levels of security with the possibility of circulating sensitive data such as bank accounts with user IDs and passwords, alarm codes or access to homes, meetings of teenagers, and so on.

Therefore, it is recommended to change the passwords that come by default and save them in secure sites;

Use strong passwords and, therefore, secure.

It also advocates not linking devices such as child consoles with others that store more sensitive data such as bank passwords;

and perform security updates - if the updates are not made, the devices can become more vulnerable to viruses or cyber attacks.

In addition, it is recommended to be careful with comments made, in the presence of cameras or baby monitors, on bank details or security codes, someone could have access to this information, so that when they are not using these devices better disconnect them.

The Service of Advice to the User of the Municipal Services informs that it is preferable not to use the ordinary mail account to link it with connected devices;

and better not to connect to public wi-fi networks.

Basic rights of consumers

Likewise, the basic rights of consumers such as the protection of their legitimate economic and social interests are remembered;

in particular, against the inclusion of abusive clauses in contracts;

and compensation for damages and compensation for damages suffered.

Other rights are correct information about the different goods or services and education and dissemination to facilitate knowledge about its proper use, consumption or enjoyment;

and the hearing in consultation, the participation in the procedure of elaboration of the general dispositions that affect them directly and the representation of their interests, through the associations, groups, federations or confederations of consumers and legally constituted users.

Consumers must have the protection of their rights through effective procedures, especially in situations of inferiority, subordination and helplessness.
