Ganar Totana presents an initiative to the full so that the House of the Gray becomes municipal property (21/01/2019)

"We will also ask the regional administration, through the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, for an economic endowment to begin its restoration and enhancement"

If there is an emblematic building in the traditional gardens of Totana, is this majestic palace with the appearance of an Italian palace, dating from 1980, and is listed with a degree of protection, located at the beginning of the Huerta road.

It is a unique place for its beauty, history, location and environment, but that over the years has continued to deteriorate alarmingly and it is very urgent to adopt agreements to begin recovery and rehabilitation of this building that may be key as a cultural offer, and even as a possible museum to make known the history and importance of the gardens in our municipality.

Already in 2006, 13 years ago, Izquierda Unida fully presented an initiative in order to begin talks with the direct heirs of the Gray family to study a project for the rehabilitation of the palace and that the ownership of this exceptional property would pass to be public property.

A proposal that at that time did not have the support of the Popular Party, and therefore, the municipal government in that and subsequent legislatures.

Therefore, in recent years and also from our government responsibility, we have been carrying out negotiations with the regional administration and with the family and heirs of D, Alberto Gray Peinado to study how a municipally owned building could be .

Conditioned to enhance resources and Public Heritage in the service of common interests. Today, we can affirm that the family is very willing to negotiate and there would be many possibilities to carry out this interesting operation.

Meetings have also been held in recent years with the Directorate General of Cultural Assets to negotiate grants from the Autonomous Community and other Institutions for Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Valorization of this "Architectural Jewel", with outstanding environmental and landscape values.

Therefore, it is time to take up this important initiative that we could not take forward more than ten years ago, but that now can be a reality.
