Citizens reiterates their support for the preservation and enhancement of our heritage during their visit to the archaeological site of La Bastida in Totana (14/09/2018)

"Our commitment is not in words, but is reflected in more investment so that our history and heritage become a cultural and tourist attraction," says regional spokesman, Miguel Sánchez

Citizens today reiterated their strong support for the preservation and enhancement of our history and heritage, during a guided tour with the archeologists of the Autonomous University of Barcelona to the La Bastida site in Totana.

The regional spokesman, Miguel Sanchez, recalled that "our commitment is not by word or mere posture, but is reflected in more investment so that our history and heritage become a cultural and tourist attraction."

In this sense, Sanchez -who attended the national deputy José Luis Martínez and the regional Luis Fernandez- recalled that "it was our initiative that has made both the excavations of La Bastida and La Almoloya and more recently the Castillejo of the Rey Lobo in Monteagudo have a million euros in cash and so the experts can continue to extract from the earth the story of our history, the story of what we were.

Sanchez has celebrated that last June this game was made to the effective end: "We said that we were going to be vigilant, because this Government of ours is very fond of making big announcements, taking a photo, consigning even the money and then not executing only a minimum This is why we are pleased that the experts can continue to work with sufficient and adequate funding. "

For his part, José Luis Martínez stressed that "besides the unquestionable academic value of these findings, the key is that this heritage that we are literally unearthing has the potential to become a tourist and cultural attraction, to boost the local economy."

The congressman stressed that Citizens also work in this direction in Congress, and that their push has achieved 1.2 million euros within the National Strengths Plan to consolidate and improve the Castle of Monteagudo, which will be added to the 690,000 euros that the training has included for these works and those of the rest of the palatial-military complex of Monteagudo.

According to some archaeologists the La Bastida deposit was during the Bronze Age the most advanced settlement in Western Europe in political and military terms.

La Bastida is so important that some experts consider it the first major city in Western Europe.

It is a city protected by a wall about seven meters high that survived for six centuries and was abandoned for reasons that are still unknown, although it is considered a climate crisis added to the depletion of resources and a population explosion for this abrupt end.
