City officials attending the presentation of the "Guide Geological Espuña Regional Park" (07/06/2010)

The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and Council Member for the Environment, Trini Cayuela, attended the presentation of the "Guide geological Espuña Regional Park, whose production has participated totanero Romero Sánchez Gregorio, and aims to to publicize the most outstanding geological features of each of the courses to be raised in this publication.

The presentation of this publication, which was attended also by President of the Club Senderista of Totana, is part of the activities organized by the Department of Environment on the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day.

In preparing this guide, published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water through the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, geologists have participated Manuel Martín Martín, Gregorio Romero Sánchez and Miguel Angel Jimenez Mancheño.

Through this publication, Gregorio Romero explained that the visitor Espuña Regional Park, an expert on the subject or not, you learn the most prominent geological features of each of the routes involved, based on scientific and didactic allows you to play from the geological point of view places for walking, since its history is written in the rocks.

This guide is divided into two distinct parts.

In the first of which describes the main geological features of the Espuña, beginning with its frame and geographic description of its structure, stratigraphy and tectonics, and then address aspects of paleontology and erosion phenomena that occur there and help us to understand the landscape governing this site.

Equally interesting are other chapters, which complete the first part of the guide, dedicated to the aquifers, the underground caverns and mining activity since the mid-nineteenth century.

The second part of the guide is devoted to places of geological interest (LIG), of which have been identified up to 30 to over 12 routes.

Have been published 1,000 copies of this guide, at a cost of 11,000 euros, financed by FEDER.

Participated in its preparation technicians from the general direction of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, researchers and experts from the Universities of Alicante and Murcia, the general direction of Fine Arts and Cultural Center of Murcia Elf.
