The Department of Social Welfare intends to "reject the cuts in social benefits and rights imposed by the central Government" (18/05/2010)

The Department of Social Welfare and Citizenship file a motion in Parliament this month of May, for which the city of Totana show their rejection of the measures proposed by the Government to reduce the government deficit to be obvious cuts such as social rights especially damaging to people and most vulnerable in our society.

Also, through this proposal seeks to require the rectification of these measures and cuts as well as enhancement of financial support that the Government should pay to the municipalities in these times of economic crisis to address especially the needs of disadvantaged groups and individuals .

Similarly, they urge the Government of Spain to develop policies for public expenditure savings that meet the criteria of equality, redistribution, equity, proportionality and social justice, given the difficult situation in which there are many individuals and families.

In this sense, the councilman of Social Welfare and Citizenship, Juan Carrion, recalled the list of measures presented by the Prime Minister to ensure that the State save 15,000 euros in 2010 and 2011 as imposed by the EU markets and Europe before the exorbitant deficit our country has.

These measures include the freezing of pensions in 2011, eliminating the check-chair, the elimination of the retroactivity of aid dependence, reducing the number of early retirements, reduction of salary of staff and / or reduction in official development assistance

In this way, said "although the severity of the situation we are facing require urgent action, it is unfair that the citizens and the most vulnerable sectors of society such as the elderly, pensioners, dependents, have to lead and take responsibility in these moments of the inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the central government when implementing policies of public action "

Therefore, said "the implementation of these measures are superficial, inadequate and disproportionate to tackle the problems affecting our country, whose solution is inexorably increasing production and employment."

He also explained that "these welfare cuts have a clear effect on increasing social problems and needs financial support that the citizens are greatly demanding especially the municipalities and local public administration."

The mayor noted that local government is doubly disadvantaged in this case because, the increase in population going to the municipal social services need to link the funding cut is expected to apply to municipalities by the government (1200 billion ), which "certainly makes it a critical situation of these entities."

Finally, he indicated that "it is clear that the Government has breached the commitment to public administration and social dialogue and legislation as ensuring that pensions are revalued."
