The Full Council of Totana unanimously adopted the Municipal Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction in the town, which aims to mobilize the community to minimize the risk factors related to unhealthy lifestyles and facilitate the development of factors protection against drug use.
Through this initiative by the Department of Social Welfare and Citizenship, with the implementation of the Municipal Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction of the City of Totana, is intended as a municipal response to the phenomenon of drug addiction and provide a framework for reference to guide, promote, organize, plan and coordinate the various initiatives, processes and actions that develop and grow in the municipality that affect more effective and efficient in reducing drug addiction and its consequences.
This Plan focuses and puts the emphasis in the actions of prevention to be held in the Education, Leisure and Recreation, Family and Community in general and with the groups at risk of social exclusion because of their special problems .
Similarly it was considered appropriate to include within these areas of intervention actions related gift research and coordination as transversal issues that the Plan should provide for proper implementation and development.
This Plan seeks to mobilize the community to minimize the risk factors related to unhealthy lifestyles and facilitate the development of protective factors against drug use.
In this way between the main purposes of the Municipal Plan are, to avoid relegation at the age of onset for alcohol, snuff and other drugs among the youth of the town, reducing problematic drug use, the quality of life losses and welfare of consumers, their families and the community in general.
For this purpose the Plan intends to develop its activities following these strategies, according to Regional Plan on Drugs 2007-2010.
Councilman field, Juan Carrion, said that "consumption and drug abuse is deeply rooted social and constitutes a public health problem that involves unprecedented negative consequences for affected individuals, families and society in general."
He noted that the phenomenon of drug addiction "calls for decisive action, committed and responsible public authorities to develop measures and actions in nature education and prevention, which enable the reduction and elimination of the causes that foster it."
In this context, within the existing regulatory framework, the Autonomous Community of Murcia is driving the development of municipal activities aimed at preventing drug use through the establishment of agreements with various municipalities in the region between Totana set, he argued Carrión.
Similarly, he recalled that the City of Totana is developing since 1995 a number of policies aimed at prevention of drug addiction from the areas of sports, youth, social action that have been providing a growing supply in programs to work creatively and positively leisure and recreation by providing information and alternatives to the consumption of legal or illegal substances.
On the other hand, corporates have also unanimously approved the joint proposal submitted by the departments of Health and Social Welfare to urge the Ministry of Health to create a reference Medical Genetics Unit at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de Murcia Arrixaca .
It was also unanimously agreed the adoption of internal rules of the new Municipal Center Day for people with mental illness.
