The town of Puerto Lumbreras hosted on Sunday January 31 Chess Tournament teams heading semirápidas "Federation Cup", held at the Parador Nacional de Turismo, with the participation of 28 teams across the region of Murcia.
The International team Totana Chess Club in our city, was declared winner with 21 brilliant possible 28 points, ahead of teams Lapuerta A (Cartagena) and Mar Menor (San Javier), who shared the second and third with 20 points.
The fourth place went to the Torres Cabezo team with 18 points.
The championship was played 10 hours to 21 hours in seven rounds from 20 minutes per player with ten seconds of delay per game and was very close in the top places, with 6 teams fighting from the start to win.
Proof of this is that the team of Totana, a priori favorite after winning last November the regional champion in classical chess mode, only managed to take the lead after defeating the sixth day, certifying his victory with a tie to two in the seventh and final game against the team of Mar Menor.
The team was composed totanero Juan Miguel Ibarra Jerez, Carlos Tudela Carlini, Pedro and Ramon Perez Murcia Garre Merlos, who had the following results in the seven games played: Ibarra 4.5 points, 4.5 points Tudela, Garre 6.5 Ramón points and 5.5 points.
With this win the first team chess club Totana have four wins in the Federation Cup, which together with the seven regional championships for teams made in the regular season in nine years, makes it the most successful chess team of our region over the past decade.
The closing ceremony and awards to the four ranked teams was conducted by the President of the Chess Federation of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Gallego, next to the Director of the Parador Nacional de Turismo, Jesus Manuel Perez and the councilman of Youth and Sports City of Port Maria Carrasco, who noted "this was the first time that Puerto Lumbreras hosts a regional tournament of this type.
A total of 112 participants from the region met in a tournament this year has strengthened the level of the participants. "
